四戒

Four stages in moral development: that of release, or deliverance from the world on becoming a monk; that arising from the four meditations on the realms of form; that above the stage of [lang id =1028]見道 q. v.; that in which all moral evil is ended and delusion ceases.

﹝出華嚴孔目﹞ 〔一、 解脫戒〕， 謂身不殺、 盜、 婬， 口不妄言、 綺語、 惡口、 兩舌， 則自然遠離惑業之縛， 而得自在， 是名解脫戒。 〔二、 定共戒〕， 謂因修習禪定， 發得初禪、 二禪、 三禪、 四禪天定之時， 不作意持， 自然不犯， 而戒與定俱發， 是名定共戒。 （初禪、 二禪、 三禪、 四禪， 皆色界天也。 ） 〔三、 道共戒〕， 謂聲聞之人， 於見道、 修道位中， 不作意持， 自然不犯， 而戒與道俱發， 是名道共戒。 （見道即初果須陀洹。 修道即二果斯陀含、 三果阿那含也。 ） 〔四、 斷戒〕， 謂斷貪瞋癡等煩惱， 得成道果， 是名斷戒。
